Three families, one decision Ritable manufactures three piping families for
hydronic and plumbing systems: PE-Xa Series Pipe, PE-RT Series Pipe and
Multilayer Series Pipe. All three are corrosion-free, flexible and long-lasting
— but they are engineered for different jobs. This guide explains the
differences so you can specify the right one the first time.
1. PE-Xa — the performance benchmark PE-Xa is produced by the Engel
peroxide method, which creates a homogeneous molecular structure across the pipe
wall. Because the cross-linking is uniform (not concentrated at the surface as
with PEX-b or PEX-c), PE-Xa delivers the most stable long-term properties of the
three PEX types and the highest resistance to temperature and pressure
cycling.
Best for: underfloor heating, radiator circuits, hot and cold potable
water, district heating, industrial and commercial projects
Why specify it: shape memory supports cold-expansion connections; proven in
large public projects; manufactured at scale — Ritable's PE-Xa lines have run
since 2001 with 40+ million metres per year

2. PE-RT — the cost-effective workhorse PE-RT (raised-temperature
polyethylene) needs no cross-linking, so it is simpler to produce and more
economical per metre. It is flexible and corrosion-resistant, and is the default
choice for large, straightforward radiant floors where the highest thermal
rating is not required.
Best for: residential underfloor heating, large-area circuits, cold water
plumbing
Why specify it: lower material cost for comparable service life in heating
applications; easy to handle on site

3. Multilayer — the shape-keeper Multilayer pipe bonds a welded aluminium
core between inner and outer polymer layers. The aluminium core gives it
something the other two cannot offer: it holds the bend. That eliminates the
need for clips on many runs and makes neat, straight pipe routing possible.
Best for: visible plumbing runs, radiator connections, renovation work,
systems where pipe must hold its shape
Why specify it: bend retention, full oxygen tightness from the aluminium
layer, low thermal expansion

Large radiant floor, cost-driven → PE-RT
Radiant floor with oxygen-tight requirement → PE-RT/EVOH or PE-Xa/EVOH
High-temperature, high-cycling or public/commercial project → PE-Xa
Exposed plumbing that must look straight → Multilayer
A single project can mix all three: PE-Xa on the main risers, PE-RT on the
floor circuits, Multilayer on the visible connections.
